Special Needs Sash Grading Syllabus:
This syllabus, based on the British National Vocational Qualification
(NVQ) Level 5, has been specially adapted for those with learning
difficulties and also for teaching people
in wheel chairs,where only
hands need be used. It begins at the lowest level, White, and
progresses upwards through the seven levels.
WHITE SASH
1. Attend at least 80% of classes
2. Demonstrate the ability to follow an instructor practising Chi Kung
exercise No. 2
3. Demonstrate the ability to follow an instructor practising Tai Chi
Hand Form 'Beginning' style
YELLOW SASH
1. Attend at least 80% of classes
2. Demonstrate the ability to follow an instructor practising Chi Kung
exercise Nos. 2 & 3
3. Demonstrate the ability to follow an instructor practising Tai Chi
Hand Form 'Beginning' style and 'Seven Stars' style
ORANGE SASH
1. Attend at least 80% of classes
2. Demonstrate the ability to follow an instructor practising Chi Kung
exercise Nos. 2, 3 & 4
3. Demonstrate the ability to follow an instructor practising Tai Chi
Hand form up to 'Grasping the Bird’s Tail'
GREEN SASH
1. Attend at least 80% of classes
2. Demonstrate the ability to follow an instructor practising Chi Kung
exercise Nos. 2, 3, 4 & 5
3. Demonstrate the ability to follow an instructor practising Tai Chi
Hand Form up to 'Single Whip'
BLUE SASH
1. Attend at least 80% of classes
2. Demonstrate the ability to follow an instructor practising Chi Kung
exercise Nos. 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6
3. Demonstrate the ability to follow an instructor practising Tai Chi
Hand Form up to the completion of 'Cloud Hands'
BROWN SASH
1. Attend at least 80% of classes
2. Demonstrate the ability to follow an instructor practising Chi Kung
exercise Nos. 2 to 10
3. Demonstrate the ability to follow an instructor practising Tai Chi
Hand Form up to the completion of 'Pat the Horse High'
BLACK SASH
1. Attend at least 80% of classes
2. Demonstrate the ability to follow an instructor practising Chi Kung
exercise Nos. 1 to 10, plus the fixed positions 1 to 5
3. Demonstrate with an instructor the Chi Kung Healing exercise routine
for stress
4. Demonstrate with a partner: Seven Stars, Four Directions, Nine Palaces
5. Demonstrate on your own, the Hand Form up to 'Single Whip'
This syllabus can be adapted to teach people in wheel chairs, where only
hands need be used.
